Shapes Between

Solo exhibition of Artist Jingxin Geng

17.04-09.05.2021

Jingxin Geng, a Chinese Norwegian artist. In her upcoming solo exhibition, Geng will present her series of paper cutting artworks, an nonfigurative space based on superimposed and reconstructed paper cutting.

Geng completed art education both in China and Norway. She had doubts about the early traditional realistic techniques  and  limitations of easel painting. Her exploration of contemporary art making began while she was a student at the National Art Academy in Oslo (2003 to 2008). Geng practices with different media and ways in art making. Her current art practice is based on multi layered paper cutting and collage. These simple geometric shapes and lines are the most basic element and linguistic symbols. After multiple layered, repeatedly superimposed, they formed an unexpected and unpredictable visual dimension. In the artist`s personal point of view, repetition is also the basic regular pattern of human life. All basic activities, like daily routine, learning, training, even as the time, etc. which repeats to construct the life dimensions of each of us. The artist  Geng embodies this concept of repetition in her creations.

The early series maintained the true colors of the materials, and the visual perception was pure, cool, precise, and more abstract. The creations in recent years have used color, which has attached a certain emotion to these new works,  and seems to be able to read more lyrical and narrative flavors. I believe this is closely related to her personal life,  the birth of her second newborn.

This exhibition focuses on Jingxin's new works from 2019 and 2020 throughout the epidemic period. We pick up her art fragments in this special period and present to you with pleasure!
